3- Curing depths of dual and light curing buildup resins
(3D in APR 2003 CRA Newsletter)

Research Question: How deep will buildup resins cure?  A conventional Halogen, LED, and a plasma arc light were used with cure times of 40sec, 20 sec, and 10 sec respectively.  Cure times were determined by recommendation by manufacturers of  buildup resins, if there was no recommendation then they were chosen by recommendation from curing light manufacturer.  Testing was done in accordance with ADA Specification #27 on resin-based filling materials.  According to the specification, total cure depth is reported as the deepest cure depth divided by 2. Note: Tests were performed under ideal lab conditions & clinical depths of cure will probably not be as good.

Photocore light cure buildup resin cured about twice as deep as the dual cure buildup resins. Halogen light (40 sec.) cured all materials deeper than the LED (20 sec.) and plasma arc (10 sec.).
