1- Bond strengths of dual cure buildup resins allowed to auto cure
(3A in APR 2003 CRA Newsletter)

Research Question: What effect does light curing of dual cure buildup resins have on bond strength?  One of each Type of adhesive was chosen for this test along with 2 dual cure buildup resins.  Bond strengths were tested 10 minutes after polymerization (light cured) or placement of core material (auto cured).

Chart 1: 10 minute bond Strengths (MPa) of 4 adhesives to 2 dual cure buildup resins with & without light cure step.

Summary of chart: 10 minute bond strengths were statistically lower for each adhesive - buildup resin combination when the dual cure buildup resin was allowed to autocure only.  These data indicate dual cure buildup resins should be light cured when possible to obtain highest possible bond strength at 10 minutes.
